Tracking the race to be the next idol

Phil Stacey: If You Didn’t Love Me

I love Phil Stacey’s song, If You Didn’t Love Me.  Phil has been doing rather well since he was eliminated from Idol on Season 6.  I am a big fan!  He just sang this song over the weekend at the Grand Ole Opry.  Here is the official music video….enjoy!  Tell us what you think - are you a Phil fan or not?

Idols On Tour: Tickets Available for Utah Show

The Deseret News is reporting today that there are still tickets available for the Idols tour tonight and tomorrow night in Utah.  The show originally sold out so an extra day was added to give more fans the opportunity to see their favorite Idols.  Even though David Cook was the winner, the Deseret News reports that it is the runner-up, David Archuleta, who was the reason tickets originally sold out.

As of Sunday there were still tickets available for the Tuesday concert, and scalpers, or ticket brokers, have been hard at work trying to capitalize on the hype. A few online clicks found a plethora of tickets for today’s and Tuesday’s performances.

If you have the chance to go now that there are tickets available, here’s the info you need to get tickets:

Idols On Tour: Tacoma, Washington Review

ai-live-tour-2008a.jpg

The Idols were in Tacoma, Washington on Saturday night and again I have another review posted by the the seattlepi.com. Lynsi Burton said the Idols gave a “mixed performance”. She apparently wasn’t overly impressed with the concert because she ended her article with:

As Randy Jackson might say: “It was all right, dawg. Not bad, but it was just all right for me.”

You can read the rest of Lynsi’s review here.

Jeff Archuleta Finally Speaks Out On Negative Press Against Him

story.jpg

Jeff Archuleta finally had a chance to speak out about all of the rumors and allegations surrounding him and his son, David Archuleta, during Season 7 of American Idol.   Jeff said that during the Idol season they could not talk to anyone other than Fox due to confidentiality agreements they had signed.  So Jeff & David had to take all of the negative press and keep silent about it, which would be very hard.  Jeff Archuleta set the record straight with the Utah Deseret News.

  • Jeff said he never yelled at David for forgetting lyrics to his songs.
  • Jeff said he never withheld water from his son.
  • The “Stand By Me” change had been approved by Idol producers.  They said it was okay to do that.
  • Jeff said it was frustrating to him that Idol would not set the record straight.  They said it was  a fairness issue.
  • Jeff said there wasn’t one thing reported about him that was true.

Idols on Tour: Review of Oregon Concert

ai-live-tour-2008a.jpg

Here is an excerpt from the Oregon Live review of the Idols tour in Portland on Friday night at the Rose Garden:

Five things we learned watching the “American Idols Live!” concert at the Rose Garden Friday night:

1. The Idols sure do like Portland.
2. You have to follow your heart.
3. Girls scream for David Archuleta.
4. We’re an awesome crowd!
5. “American Idols Live!” is the concert equivalent of a summertime action movie — engineered to give the audience a show with flash, energy and precious few surprises.

Idols On Tour: Lakisha Jones to Perform in Flint

lakisha-jones.jpg

I thought Lakisha Jones was awesome on American Idol and I’m glad to see that she has been working since her elimination from the show. Lakisha has been busy in the recording studio this year working on her album and while doing live shows and performing on Broadway.

This Saturday she will perform in Flint at the Perani Arena as part of the fourth annual “Bringing It Home” festival. She will perform songs from her album that is to be released in August, but is still yet untitled. She said that for this performance, the crowd will definitely see a different side of her that they didn’t see on American Idol.

“You’ll hear some R&B during the show, soul, uptempo, midtempo, it’s not all ballads,” she said. “I still love my ballads, and I wanted to do more, but my producers said, ‘You need more uptempo numbers.’”

Lakisha says that her busy schedule has left her feeling very fatigued lately as she tries to juggle both performing and spending time with her five-year-old daughter, Brionne.

LiveDaily Interview with David Cook On Album

david-cook_l.jpg

David Cook’s a busy guy - the Idol tour, his upcoming album, and tons of interviews since winning the Idol title.   Here are some excerpts from yet another interview David Cook just did with LiveDaily.  The interview mainly focuses on his upcoming album, his musical inspirations, American Idol and information on the tour.  Here’s an excerpt from the LiveDaily interview:

You did Our Lady Peace’s “Innocent” on the show. How did you discover the band? They’re biggest in border towns and you’re from Missouri.

There was a dude that I went to high school with. He was a year or two older than me. At that point, I was really trying to get into some new music. He said, “Well here. Listen to this record.” It was Our Lady Peace’s “Clumsy.” “You can borrow this, da da da.” It took me six months to get it back to him. I just loved the record. Then, once college hit and “Gravity” came out, I re-immersed myself in it. I went back and started listening to “Spiritual Machines” and “Happiness … is Not a Fish That You Can Catch.” The ambient stuff on those records is so solid. You just get lost in it. You see the charitable stuff that Raine does and that solidified it for me. I remember watching very recently his video treatment for “Yellow Brick Road,” that song he did on his solo record. It was amazing. He goes out and plays acoustic on the streets all day to try to raise $30,000 to build a school in Africa. It’s easy for somebody of his stature to kind of rest on his laurels a little bit. The fact that he is so active–I respect him more than I could ever put into words.

For the tour, are you able to choose which songs you sing?

Yeah, yeah. Mainly I’m doing stuff from the show. I’m going to be doing the single, “Time of My Life.” And then I have one song that I didn’t do on the show, that I’m very, very excited about. It’s high energy. I’m hoping to get the crowd into it a little bit and it means something to me.

Brooke White’s New Tour Blog

While I have always been a big music lover and I am a pretty good singer myself (not to brag!), I knew that I was never physically cut out for the music business life. These poor kids on tour right now have to be exhausted. I’m sure once everything is over and the excitement has died down they will probably retreat and sleep for days. That’s what I would do anyhow. Brooke White is blogging on her MySpace page about what a day in the life of a touring Idol is like.

Here’s an excerpt from her MySpace page and you can click here to read the rest of it.

We roll up in the buses to our destination roughly around 5 am, we stumble out of our bunks after a few hours of sleep, grab our suitcases packed with the simple bare necessities, walk into the hotel looking like zombies, grab our key, head up to the elevator and into our rooms (we get our own rooms), as soon as we walk into our rooms we drop our bags and head straight for the bed and dive under the covers to fall back to sleep for a few more hours before check out and call time. Unfortunately, for someone like me… it has been quite a challenge for me to fall back asleep… you see I’ve been somewhat of an insomniac since I was in fifth grade, so once I’m up, I’m up… the brain gets to work and I can get it to quit! There have been a few days that I have laid there awake and watch the hours pass until it’s time to get up and get in show gear after 2-3 hours of sleep. Thankfully, I think I might be starting to acclimate to this schedule, and I’m managing a few more hours of rest. Any who, I wake up with just enough time to hop in the shower, this is essential to my day, shower is like an instant “re-start”… get rid of the grime you manage to collect during the show and after sleeping on the bus, wipe off the raccoon eyes that I wake up with from the left over mascara on the eyes, wash the tangles out of my hair from loads of product and backcombing. Seriously life changing!

Jennifer Hudson’s New Album Cover

Wow - check out Jennifer Hudson on her new album cover.  She looks awesome, don’t you think?  There have been some rumors as to whether this photo was retouched to make her look smaller, but E! Online is saying that the picture is definitely authentic.  Jennifer’s album, simply titled Jennifer Hudson, will be released in September and she is hoping to go on tour shortly after.
